We have started to see Feline Parvo cases this spring and we wanted to be sure to bring this to the attention of the public.
Feline Parvo more appropriately called feline panleukopenia (FP) and is a highly contagious viral disease in cats caused by feline parvovirus. Kittens are most severely affected by the virus but it can be seen in adult cats as well, particularly if not vaccinated.
Please be sure that all your cats are properly vaccinated. Kittens that are given only one dose of the vaccine are NOT considered protected. The vaccination can be given as early as six weeks of age and posted every 3-4 weeks until the kitten is 16 weeks of age. If a cat with an unknown vaccination status is presented for vaccinations he/she is given a vaccination and then boosted in 3-4 weeks. The vaccination can be given every year to every three years depending on the patient’s exposure/risks.
We offer a health program at Catskill Veterinary Services called Lifetime Wellness Program. You pay a one time fee and ALL CORE vaccinations are free for the life of your pet!
